Sangli, Maharashtra, Feb 22 (UNI) Sanjay Patil, a Congress leader from Tasgaon taluka in this district, has announced his decision to quit the party and join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Mr Patil told reporters here today that he and his supporters will support NCP candidates in next month's zilla parishad and panchayat samiti elections.

He said he wishes to join hands with Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil for the all-round development of the Tasgaon taluka and Sangli district.

Incidentally, Mr Patil has been a strong opponent of the deputy chief minister for almost two decades and had also contested the assembly elections, though unsuccessfully, against Mr R R Patil.

Former Congress MLA from Atpadi, Rajendra Deshmukh, is also likely to join the NCP.
