Strengthen coastal security in TN: BJP

Madurai, Feb 22 (UNI) Recent seizures of huge quantity of explosives in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu necessitates strengthening of the security arrangements alon the coastline, State BJP President L Ganesan said today.

Addressing mediapersons here, he expressed apprehension as to whether the southern states were sliding into a situation akin to the insurgency infested North-East. The South could no more claim to be free of terrorist activities, he claimed.

Clandestine manufacture of rocket launchers at a Chennai suburb, unearthed during the Jayalalithaa government and the recent haul of explosives on and off the coastline were a grim reminder of the deteriorating security of environment, the BJP leader observed.

The situation in Kerala was alarming since both the government as well as the opposition were vying with one another in extending support to militant outfits, Hhe opined.

Entry of MNCs in retail trade would affect the livelihood of small traders, especially the Nadar community and the Muslims.
