President Kalam to visit Coimbatore on Feb 24

Coimbatore, Feb 22: President A P J Abdul Kalam will arrive here on February 24 on a day's visit to the city and Udhagamandalam to attend some functions.

District Adminstration sources here said the President would arrive at Peelamedu airport by 0930 hrs in a special aircraft and would leave for Udhagamandalam in a special helicopter to inaugurate a medical conference at JSS College.

Later, he would meet the soldiers of Madras Regiment at Wellington.

Dr Kalam would also attend the Silver Jubilee function of Bharathiyar University, in which he would confer Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi the 'Thamizh Chemmal' title.

He would also distribute five lakh books collected by the University to 234 rural libraries.

Before leaving for New Delhi, the President would attend the Golden Jubilee function of the South India Textiles Research Association at Peelamedu.

Police had tightened the security in around the city in view of his visit, the sources added.
