Police lathicharge Congress workers in Gandhinagar

Ahmedabad, Feb 22 (UNI) Three people were injured when police lathicharged Congress workers, who took out a protest march against the Gujarat government's failure on several fronts, at Gandhinagar today.

According to sources, police also used water canons on the protesters. Paramilitary and Rapid Action Force were deployed to bring the situation under control. The injured were admitted to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital.

The Mahila Congress today took out a protest march from Gandhi Ashram here to Gandhinagar. The members had planned to submit a memorandum to the Governor highlighting "failures" of the Modi government.

The rally started from Gandhi Ashram at 0500 hrs and when the Congress workers tried to burn the Chief Minister Narendra Modi in effigy at a village, the police intervened and took away the effigy.

A team of 11 women, led by Ms Chandikra Chaudsma, president of the Congress Mahila Morcha, was permitted to present a memorandum to the Governor.

Law and order, price rise and relaxation in the prohibition policy were some of the issues the Congress highlighted through the rally.
