Notices issued to K'taka Govt, GESCOM

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed issuance of emergent notices to the State Government and the Managing Director of GESCOM on a writ petition, seeking to pay adequate compensation to a 12-year-old boy who lost his limbs after coming into contact with a negligently laid High Tension electric line belonging to the GESCOM.

Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice B S Patil issued the notices on the writ petition, registered suo-motu by the court pursuant to a media report about the incident.

The report said that despite many representations to the officers, no action had been taken to remove the dangerously low lying wire. The boy, Nikhil Kumar, accidentally came into contact with the wire while playing and had almost lost his life.
