NDA condemn raids on Eenadu group of institutions

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders today strongly condemned the 'attack' on the freedom of press and asked the Government to stop all action against the institutions owned by the Eenadu group of publications.

The raids on the institutions belonging to the media house were ''a grim reminder of the days of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her dictatorial ways,'' NDA Convenor George Fernandes told newspersons after a meeting of party leaders to evolve a strategy for the budget session of Parliament beginning tomorrow.

A resolution in this regard was also adopted at the meeting.

BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the raids brought into memory, the attrocities on the media and its freedom during emergency.

When asked how the raid on a finance firm could be an attack on the media, Mr Malhotra said any action against any institution belonging to the group tantamounts to infringement of freedom adding the Congress Government was known for muzzling the media.
