Minorities being terrorised on Gujarat model, says MLA
Bhopal, Feb 22 (UNI) Opposition members today arraigned the BJP government in the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha for the deteriorating law and order situation and increased communal tension during religious festivals.
Resuming the debate on the motion of thanks on Governor Balram Jakhar's address to the house on February 19, Samajwadi Party member Dr Sunilam said the minorities were being terrorised on the Gujarat model by raking up communal tension during religious festivals.
Referring to deteriorating law and order, he said a woman police inspector Chetana Sharma was killed in Gwalior and no murder case was registered yet against the Superintendent of Police, whose involvement was suspected.
In the wake of the death of Prof H S Sabharwal, who was beaten to death by ABVP leaders of Ujjain, Dr Sunilam said media reports pointed out that at least 3,000 officers had been beaten up by Bajrang Dal workers in the state. The law and order situation was worsening, he added.
The SP member offered to resign from the Assembly if the BJP government could contradict his claim that there was gross irregularities in the implementation of Deendayal Upchar scheme.
''Assistance to BPL families were on paper only'', he claimed.
Dr Sunilam also alleged that ruling BJP workers were cornering contracts for rural development works, which were hampered by rampant corruption.
Mr Ramniwas Rawat(Cong) also alleged that despite liberal assistance from the Centre, rural people were not getting benefit of the rural development works as 85 percent funds were being siphoned off by BJP members. Few ruling party members objected Mr Rawat's contention.
Mr Rawat demanded that a house committee be formed to probe into the irregularities in rural development works. He also alleged corruption and blackmarketing of foodgrains and kerosene allotted under the public distribution system.
Mr Gajraj Singh Sikarwar and Mrs Ranjana Baghel(both BJP) lauded the government's financial management and said the BJP government had initiated many schemes to safeguard the interests of farmers and workers in the unorganised sector.
Dr Sunilam and Mr Rawat referred to the government claim about it being awarded at the India Today conclave and said the ground reality was just opposite.
''The Digvijay Singh government, which earlier trumpetted about its achievement, was voted out and the BJP government was following suit'', Dr Sunilam added.
