India bans transfer of nuclear technology to Iran

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) In compliance with the UN Security Council resolution passed last year, India has prohibited export of any material and technology to Iran that could contribute to its nuclear weapons and delivery systems.

The Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification that "direct or indirect export and import of all items, materials, equipment, goods and technology which could contribute to Iran's enrichment-related, reprocessing or heavy water related activities, or to the development of nuclear weapon delivery systems, whether or not originating in Iran, to/from Iran is prohibited." Exceptions have been made in the case of "supply, sale or transfer of equipment" for light water reactors and low-enriched uranium when it is incorporated in assembled nuclear fuel elements for such reactors.

The Security Council had through a resolution passed last year banned supplies of nuclear-related technology and material to Teheran.
