CPI(M) urges govt to disband Dr Mashelkar committee

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today urged the Government to immediately disband the discredited Dr R A Mashelkar headed expert committee on " Patent Law" and take appropriate steps to constitute an expert committee comprising persons with intellectual integrity and committed to uphold the common man's interests.

According to a party release issued here, the Mashelkar report contains many conclusions in the report which are verbatim reproduction of a research paper prepared under a research project financially supported by Interpat- a Swiss association of major European, Japanese and US based pharmaceutical companies.

After public exposure of this incident about the Mashelkar committee report, the committee has written to the Government asking that its 56-page report submitted in 2006 December be withdrawn on the grounds of " technical inaccuracy and plagiarism", the release added.
