Villagers torch police station in MP

Gwalior, Feb 21 (UNI) A police station was stoned and torched today in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district by villagers incensed over a boy's kidnapping and murder, the police said.

By afternoon the situation was extremely tense at Chinor village.

The villagers assaulted and injured Chinor Station House Officer R C Arya and the accused this morning besides torching a police vehicle before targeting the police station. Several two-wheelers parked in the premises were also set ablaze.

Bhagirath Ka Pura-resident Rohit Jatav alias Lallu's family members lodged a police complaint after the child did not return home last night from his tuition class.

Following a clue provided by a girl, a village youth Jeetendra Jatav was arrested and the kid's body found this morning.

Mr Arya and Jeetendra were surrounded at Chinor Bus Stand while the officer was conveying the corpse to Dabra for post mortem.

Personnel conveyed the accused to the police station with difficulty but the villagers reached there as well.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mangalsingh has reached Chinor village.
