TOPIX hits 15-yr high before BOJ decision on rates
TOKYO, Feb 21 (Reuters) Japan's broadest stock index was slightly up on Wednesday, hitting a 15-year peak, as steel stocks jumped after Tokyo Steel Manufacturing announced a price hike.
The technology-laced Nikkei share average slipped 0.01 percent as investors braced themselves for the Bank of Japan's decision on interest rates.
The broad TOPIX index added 0.16 percent or 2.80 points to 1,785.53, having earlier touched 1,788.11, a level last seen in November 1991.
The Nikkei was down 1.38 points at 17,937.74. On Tuesday, the benchmark finished down 0.01 percent at 17,939.12.
