Ranji: UP stun Rajasthan

Indore, Feb 21 (UNI) A scintillating unbeaten knock of 151 by Mohammad Kaif helped Uttar Pradesh attain 365/4 in the allotted 50 overs and eventually pip Rajasthan by a margin of a whopping 197 runs in a Central Zone Ranji Trophy league one-dayer at the Usha Raje Cricket Ground here today.

Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to wield the willow. After Praveen Kumar (46) returned to pavilion at 57, Kaif and Anshul Kapoor (87) built up a second-wicket partnership of 145. Kapoor fell when the scorecard read 202. Kaif -- who added 127 for the third wicket with Suresh Raina (50) -- faced 131 balls, played a blinding innings that included 5 sixes and 10 boundaries.

For the Rajputs, Pankaj Singh, S Gehlot and Afroz Khan took a wicket each.

A Srivastava (4) and Kumar (3) played a key role in bundling Rajasthan out for 168 in 43.4 overs. Anshu Jain (95) was the sole knight who could stay at the crease for a significant period. His knock included a six and 13 fours. P Singh, R P Singh and Ali Murtaza scalped a batsman each. The victors earned 5 points including a bonus point.
