CM should spell out govt's plans: Jaya

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to spell out the government's plans to get the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award implemented by the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).

The crux of the nagging issue now was to get the final award implemented, she said in a statement here.

She said the previous AIADMK government focussed on the implementation part of the award and argued before the Tribunal for an autonomous authority for apportioning and releasing the waters.

''The creation of the CMB and the CWRC by the Tribunal were the fruits of the labour of the AIADMK government. None could deny this'', the AIADMK supremo said.

Faulting the DMK government for not having done 'anything'' to get the final award implemented, Ms Jayalalithaa said in the wake of the bitter past history with the neighbouring state, any action should have a strong legal basis.

''The government has still not made its stand clear on how it is going to get the award published in the gazette under the Inter State Water Disputes Act 1956'', the Leader of the Opposition said.

Though the final verdict was not satisfactory, efforts should be made by the Tamil Nadu government to get full share of water from Karnataka considering the requirement for it in the Cauvery delta, she suggested.

Accusing the Congress of 'betraying the people of the state,' the former Chief Minister said the party had not only accepted the award but also said in the all-party meeting that nothing more needed to be done on the issue.

Stating that other national parties were also ignoring Tamil Nadu's interests on the Cauvery issue, Ms Jayalalithaa said the people of the state were eager to know the Chief Minister's next course of action in the matter, considering his 'enormous clout' at the Centre.
