Bharitya Kisan Sangh highlights farmers plight
Ahmedabad, Feb 21 (UNI) Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Gujarat President Prafull Senjaliya has expressed concern over deteriorating state of farmers in the country.
''Even half a century after independence the state of farmers in the country is miserable, as they don't get proper price for their produce. The apathetic attitude of the government has put the farmers on the brink of suicide,'' Mr Senjaliya said in the memorandum to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
''There is a big talk regarding farmer's upliftment. There is also subsidy in agriculture. Yet, the state of farmer has remained as it is. The world trade has been made easy through the implementation of GATT and WTO. However, all this has not yeilded any positive result,'' he said.
The memorandum included demands like withdrawal of ban on the export of milk powder, wheat and onions, introduction of independent budget for agriculture like railway and reinclusion of pulses and tur daal in commodity exchange.
That apart, it also demanded restoration of electricity connection in 57 sub-districts of Gujarat that face electricity shortage.
