Armymen rough up police, RPF personnel

Karwar, Karnataka, Feb 21 (UNI) A group of Army personnel assaulted several Railway Protection Force (RPF) and police personnel over a trivial issue at the railway station here this evening.

Police sources said the trouble started when the railway staff objected to the Army personnel smoking in the railway station. The irate Army personnel, numbering 40, assaulted the railway staff and the RPF and police personnel who rushed to their rescue, besides some members of the public.

Several policemen and RPF personnel were injured and over a dozen of them were taken to the District Hospital for treatment. The Armymen virtually took control of the railway station for over an hour and dared anybody to enter it.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. They took the Armymen to the naval base here, from where they had come.

An FIR was lodged against the Armymen, the sources added.
