Andaman Police arrest two poachers recovers live deer
Port Blair, Feb 21 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar Police today nabbed two persons who entered the restricted Jarawa Reserved Forest for poaching and recovered a live deer from them.
Police said a patrolling party last night saw one dinghy coming from the reserved forest areas of Jarawa and intercepted it. After search the police party found a live female deer, which was supposed to be butchered in South Andaman meat market.
Under provision of SC and ST (POA) Act and Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, killing or even taking away wild deer from forest for domestication is a crime, police said.
Both the poachers, belonging to South Andaman village, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody till March 5.
Police said the deer has been handed over to the Forest Department.
