Amma to hand over house keys to tsunami victims in Lanka

Kollam, Feb 21 (UNI) Mata Amrithanandamyai will visit Sri Lanka and hand over the keys of the houses built by the Mata Amritanandamayi Mat (MAM), to the tsunami victims in that country.

Amma had accepted the invitation of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakshe to visit the country and hand over the keys of the houses at a function at the Presidential Palace, Temple Tree, Colombo on February 23.

A total of 96 houses had been built in two locations in the Western Province of the Sinhalese district in Kalutara and in the Eastern province in the Tamil district of Amparai, it said adding that each house measuring 600 square feet was built at a cost of Rs four lakh.

After the tsunami, Amma, fondly called so by her devotees, offered a total of more than Rs 3.5 crore for the tsunami-rehabilitation work in Sri Lanka and this was the final distribution of houses, a release from MAM said.
