5,075 couples to enter into wedlock

Tirupati, Feb 21 (UNI) As many as 5,075 couples will enter into wedlock at the auspicious hour of 1154 hrs as the part of the free mass marriage scheme by Tirumala Tirupati devasthanam (TTD) at 294 places in the state tomorrow.

According to TTD Chairman B Karunakar Reddy, the mass marriages would be performed after placing ''mangalasutrams' or 'thalis' and toe rings at the feet of Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanur.

He said mass marriages were aimed at preventing religious conversion among the poor and weaker sections and to propagate Hindu traditions among the masses.

Maximum of 676 couples in Ananthapur District and 14 in Ranga Reddy District have registered for the mass marriages.
