VP Singh's Jan Morcha petitions Kalam for Mulayam's dismissal
New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Close on the heels of the Samajwadi Party leaders meeeting President APJ Abdul Kalam to demand recall of Uttar Pradesh governor TV Rajeswar, former Prime Minister VP Singh today led a Jana Morcha delegation to Dr Kalam demanding immediate dismissal of the Mulayam Singh government in the state.
'' We submitted to the President that to put a stop to the politics of defections, and to honour the spirit of the Supreme Court verdict in the BSP MLAs case, invocation of Article 356 had become necessary,'' Mr Singh told reporters in the Rashtrapati Bhawan premises after meeting the president.
''The President listened to our arguments and assured that he would give due consideration to the points raised by us,'' said Mr Singh.
The Jana Morcha founder leader was accompanied by party leader film star Raj Babbar and other party functionaries.
Mr Singh said they sought to highlight to Dr Kalam the fact that after the Supreme Court judgement, it has been proved that the Mulayam Singh government was an illegally constituted entity, so giving it an opportunity for floor test had no meaning and that the Sarkaria Commission observations and the Supreme Court verdict in the SR Bommai case supposed only a duly elected government.
''We expressed our fears that if the SP-led government continued in office, no free and fair elections would possible, as has been proved by the rigging in the recent local bodies elections in the state,'' said Mr Singh.
The former Prime Minister said the Jan Morcha also told the President that the Mulayam Singh government had been installed by the BJP in bargain for its favour to its leader LK Advani in the Babri Masjid case.''The way BJP Speaker Keshrinath Tripathi has acted in the whole episode, leaves no doubt about over enthusiasm of the party to help Mr Mulayam Singh cobble up a majority,'' he added.
Replying to a question, Mr Singh said he had spoken to DMK chief Karunanidhi and Mr Sitaram Yechiry of the CPI-M, but was yet to have any meeting with Mr Prakash Karat.
''In my opinion, the CPI-M should rethink its opposition to imposing President's rule in the state,'' he added.
