UP CM Mulayam counting on Left support

Lucknow, Feb 20: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadavtoday hoped the Left Parties would not desert Samajwadi Party in thepresent political crisis. ''I am confident they (Left Parties) will oppose tooth and nailthe imposition of President's Rule in UP by the Congress,'' Mr Yadavsaid.

The Samajwadi Party supremo also called upon workers to maintain avigil against the conspiracy of the Congress and the BJP to dislodgethe ''people oriented government'' and be ready to come out on thestreets.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the 'Lohia Path'inauguration ceremony here, the CM said: ''I do not believe that theLeft Parties will compromise on the use of Article 356 of theConstitution in UP.'' ''When the Left supports abolishment of Article356, then how can they support the UPA regime in this matter?'' henoted.

However, the CM hinted there was a possibility of the impositionof President's rule in UP, but added SP was ready to face anyconsequences and ultimately people will decide the fate in the comingelections.

He clarified there was no Supreme Court stricture against hisregime, nor any word on the disqualification of the remaining 24 MLAsof the Loktantrik Bahujan Dal (LBD).

''The Congress and other parties are making wrong interpretationof the SC judgment and it is unfortunate that people like Mr KapilSibal are also in the same league,'' he said.

''The CM reiterated that there ''is no question of my resignation nor disqualification of the 24 MLAs''.

Taking a dig on UP Governor T V Rajeswar, the CM said: ''He isacting on the directives of the Congress and is not taking anydecisions on his own.''

The CM dared the Centre to dismiss his government and rubbished theOpposition charges of ''horse-trading'' of MLAs. ''We have neverindulged in horse-trading, but the MLAs of other parties supporting usare ready to give up their membership'', he claimed. Claiming that theCongress and the BJP had joined hands to dislodge his government, MrYadav hoped the Election Commission would announce the date of theAssembly polls soon, although it had already been delayed.

Warning the Congress and other parties not to clash with the SP,he said such thing would only lead to the end of the party like in 1977.

''From Lucknow to Delhi, no one will be available to take the nameof Congress, if it continues to opt for undemocratic methods toembarass a democratically elected government,'' he added.

Exhorting the youth for 'Fourth Revolution', he said after the JaiPrakash (JP) movement, the socialists would have to unite to thwart theattempts of vested forces to damage democratic norms.

Tomorrow, Mr Yadav will hold a meeting with party workers here toevolve a strategy to counter the Centre's move to impose President'srule in UP.

Lohia Path, a dream project of the SP government, has beenconstructed with an estimated cost of around Rs 110 crore. The 6.22 kmroad is supposed to be the most modern road of the country, wheresensors have been put for street lights and have separate bicycle andpedestrian lanes.
