Speed up investigation against IRCON engineers, CJM to J

Srinagar, Feb 20 (UNI) The crime branch of the Jammu and Kashmir police has submitted another progress report in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar, in connection with the allegations of sexual exploitation of policewomen by the police and IRCON officials.

A senior officer of the Crime Branch (CB) submitted the report in the court confirming to have gathered evidence against the accused officials.

However, the court directed the CB to speed up the investigation against the IRCON engineers, allegedly involved in the sex scandle.

The court has expressed satisfaction over the progress so far made so far in the investigation in the case but directed it to speed up the probe.

The court has directed the CB to submit another report on March one.

The Crime Branch constituted a committee on the directions of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice B A Kirmani, following disclosure by a woman constable that ASI Feroz Ahmad Najar was sexually exploiting the woman constables.

Official sources said a departmental inquiry has found Najar guilty of sexual abuse as well as corruption. He was later demoted to the rank of head constable.

Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani directed the crime branch to investigate the case.

The CB, in its three page report, sumitted in the court, confirmed that Najar and some IRCON officials were involved in the scandal.

The court has directed the CB to summon all the IRCON officials named by lady constable Shahnaz Akhter.

Shahnaz Akhter, in her statement before the inquiry officer, has stated that Najar would ask her to identify beautiful girls so that he would exploit them sexually.
