Punjab students qualify for international space competition
Patiala, Feb 20 (UNI) The Team Force from Patiala has won the Third Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition, winning entry into the International Space Settlement Design Competition to be held at Johnson Space Centre, Houston, USA in July this year.
In the finals, the team's presentation on transporting space settlement ''Cassandras'' between Earth and Mars for 8,500 people, won it a chance, from among 55 teams, to participate in the prestigious international event.
The Team Force had stood first in the preliminary round in which it submitted a design of Space Settlement in the Asteroid Belt named '' Astoria'' in the competition held at Gurgaon recently.
Out of the 55 teams which participated from all over Asia, eight teams were selected in the preliminatary round.
The Team Force had also been invited in January by the American Centre, New Delhi, for video conferencing with astronaut Sunita Williams.
Under the name of company called ''Grumbo Aerospace'', the team worked continuously for 21 hrs at times, Director operations Jaskirat Batra, told UNI.
The following hierarchy enabled proper co-ordination and co-operation among members: President: Aaswant Singh Dhaliwal, Vice-President (Engineering): Saurabh Anand, Vice-President (Marketing): Anish Gaur, Director of Structural Engineering: Jaskirat Singh Batra, Director of Operations: Pulkit Sachdeva, Director of Human Factors, Aaswant Singh Dhaliwal, and Director of Automation Design: Arvinder Bir Singh.
