First meeting of India-Italy JWG on infrastructure held

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) The India-Italy Joint Working Group (JWG) on Infrastructure has become operational within three months of the decision of the India-Italy Joint Commission to set up the body.

The first meeting of JWG was held on February 15. It seeks to widen India-Italy economic ties by facilitating trade and investment flows in the infrastructure sector.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, Italian Minister of International Trade, Ms Emma Bonino and Italian Minister for Infrastructure, Mr Antonio di Pietro, have welcomed the meeting of the JWG and its outcome.

The decision to set up the JWG was taken at the 17th session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, held in Rome in November 2006.

Both sides presented the opportunities and expertise available in the infrastructure sector. Identification of joint pilot projects was discussed and projects in the highways and power sector have been identified for further participation by both sides.
