BJP demands lowering of tax deductions

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) The BJP has sought tax benefits for salaried class urging the government to reduce the tax slab by 5 per cent in the budget to be presented in Parliament on February 28.

In a letter sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP President Rajnath Singh said the upper limit of income-tax deduction should be reduced to 25 per cent from the present 30 per cent.

He said the party would also like to propose two slabs for income tax, instead of the present three slabs of 10 per cent 20 per cent and 30 per cent.

The BJP wants 2 slabs that of 7.5 per cent and 20 per cent and if at all the government likes to retain three slabs it should be at 5 per cent 15 per cent and 25 per cent he said.
