13 students drown in boat capsize

Kochi, Feb 20 (UNI) Thirteen students of an excursion party drowned as their boat capsized at Ovungal Kadavu in the Periyar river today.

Police sources said there were 45 students in the boat when it capsized. Ten students were rescued by the Naval swimmers and rescue operations were in full swing for the other missing students.

One hundred and one students and 10 teachers from St Antony's School, Elvoor, Angamali, had left in three boats to the Thattekkadu bird sanctuary and one of the boat capsized, the sources added.
