Chennai, Feb 19 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK today stressed that the Tamil Nadu Government should take steps for notification of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) in the gazette, even while going for an appeal to get more water.

In a 27-page document circulated to the media during an all-party meeting here, the AIADMK said the stand to approach the Supreme Court and implementing the final award were two different issues.

The people of Tamil Nadu did not believe the Centre would take action in implementing the final award, as it took 16 years for just setting up a tribunal. Only legal action would help the state.

The AIADMK said no national party would come forward to support Tamil Nadu as they had political interests in Karnataka and Kerala.

The Congress, Communist parties and DMK, which were guiding the Centre, should take steps to publish the final award in the gazette and to set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee without delay, it said.

The party charged that Tamil Nadu did not benefit from the Cauvery River Authority headed by the Prime Minister with state Chief Ministers as members. Tamil Nadu had to approach the Supreme Court to call for a CRA meeting, following which only six tmc ft of water was ordered to be released to the state.

The CRA had not met for many years and letters written to call for a meeting to the Prime Minister were not even considered, the party voiced.
