Sahitya Akademy Prize for Translation-2006 announced

New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Sahitya Akademy announced the Sahitya Akademy Translation Prize-2006 here today.

The award is recognition of efforts of 19 proficient book translators.

Translation of any work comes with the challenge of retaining the essence of the original composition, even as the language is altered.

Written in various regional languages, these books were selected on the recommendations of language Selection Committees concerned.

The prize carries an amount of Rs 20,000 and an engraved copper plate, which will be presented to the translators of each book at a special function to be held in August this year.

Meanwhile, the Akademy will organise a reception here tomorrow to felicitate these winners.
