Rubber exporters to take advantage of high intl price

Kottayam, Feb 19 (UNI) A meeting of rubber exporters held here today resolved to boost the rubber export immediately making use of the price advantage prevailing in the international market.

The meeting, called by the Rubber Board Chairman Sajen Peter was attended by as many as 40 exporters including representatives of Latex Producers Association, All India Natural Rubber Exporters Association, Rubber Mark and Plantation Corporation of Kerala.

The Chairman said the international price was high by about Rs 10 compared to the domestic price. The Indian growers had every right to the high international price for their produce.

Several exporters said positive trends in the international market after a relative lull for a few months was advantageous for exports.

Mr Sajen Peter said the Rubber Board was committed to the welfare of Indian farmers and would work to get farmers their due benefits of globalisation.

In the 11th Plan, priority would be given for the construction of 'Humidity Controlled Godowns' to help growers to stock their produce for a long period so that any effort for bringing down prices by domestic consumers would be offset, he added.
