PGIMER holds National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology

Chandigarh, Feb 19 (UNI) The department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, here is organising 25th National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology from today to 24, to train and educate doctors, scientists and pharmaceutical personnel in the field of new drug development.

At least 60 eminent scientists and experts in pharmaceutical industry from all over the country are sharing their views, Prof P Pandhi, Head of the department said here.

The topics to be discussed include the current issues and problems in new drug development and regulatory guidelines, he said.

In the inaugural lecture of the day, Prof P L Sharma, Professor Emeritus, Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh explained that randomised controlled clinical trials are now considered to be the gold standard for drugs and their understanding was critical for the physicians as well as pharmacologists and other researchers.

Dr Arundhati Soman from Clinical Research Division, Pfizer spoke on the subject of clinical trials while Dr Debasish Hota, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, PGI, Chandigarh said that India was poised to emerge as a leading hub of new drug development and clinical research in the coming years.

Dr Nusrat Shafiq from the department of Pharmacology, spoke on the process of taking a new chemical entity from laboratory to the patients while Dr Arjun Roy, Head, Data Management and Biostatistics, Clinical Research, Ranbaxy spoke on the process of managing data from clinical trials.
