Mulayam says unaware why attempts to topple his govt on
Vrindavan, Mathura, Feb 19 (UNI) Against the backdrop of the fast changing political situation in Uttar Pradesh, chief minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today said he could not understand why attempts were being made to dismiss his government.
''I have done nothing unethical...what is my fault,'' Mr Yadav said at a felicitation function organised by the All India Brahmin Mahasabha here.
He claimed his government had provided free education, pension, unemployment allowance and Kanya Vidyadhan Yojna to all the sections of people, without any discrimination.
''My government still enjoys the confidence of people...those, who command people's confidence, always win,'' the CM observed.
He asserted the Supreme Court had not made any adverse comments on his government. ''I would have surely resigned on moral grounds, if the apex court had made a similar observation, which it made on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the Jharkhand issue.'' Mr Yadav maintained the centre was acting as a ''dictator'' and attempting an unconstitutional step against his government.
''Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Dr Rajendra Prasad drafted the constitution after much deliberations...we are only fighting to safeguard this institution,'' Mr Yadav noted.
He also listed the achievements of his regime, saying UP was the only state, where farmers did not commit suicide.
Waxing eloquent on Brahmins, the CM said it is a learned and enlightened community of the country.
''Brahmins
were
jailed
during
Emergency,
because
they
had
raised
a
voice
against
corruption
and
atrocities.''
Mr
Yadav
further
claimed
he
had
proposed
reservation
for
Brahmins.
''I
shall
always
work
for
the
betterment
of
the
community.''
