New Delhi, Feb 19: Larsen&Toubro Ltd (L&T) today bagged a 250 million dollars contract from Maersk Oil Qatar for development of offshore platforms in Qatar.

The Block 5 package consists mainly of two 2,300-tonne new offshore platform topsides with facilities for oil production and export, a flare platform and interconnecting bridge.

Maersk Oil Qatar is developing the field under a production-sharing agreement with government-owned Qatar Petroleum.

The order, largest export project of the company, will be executed in 28 months in alliance with project partners Aker Kvaerner and Seaway Heavy Lifting of the Netherlands, acting as subcontractors.

L&T expects that this contract will open gates to increase the company's share in the West Asian hydrocarbon projects.

The company is building a world-class fabrication facility at Sohar in Oman with deep water capability. It is also building its own 3,000-tonne heavy lift pipelay vessel, to be completed by 2008, to increase its value addition and capability.
