Infiltration-exfiltration bids foiled, two killed in J and K
Srinagar, Feb 19 (UNI) Two Pakistani infiltrators were killed while 13 Myanmar nationals were arrested by the security forces when they were trying to exfiltrate into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in Jammu and Kashmir last night officials today said.
Militants made an unsuccessful attempt to blow up a roadside bunker of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Nawa Bazar in the downtown area of the city last night. However, the grenade hurled by militants missed the intended target and exploded at a distance without causing any damage.
Official spokesman said security forces guarding the border noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side at S M Pura sector from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). The militants were challenged and asked to surrender. However, they opened fire which was returned by the security forces killing both the militants.
A Defence Ministry spokesman said troops of 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), during a routine check noticed a powerful IED planted under a culvert at Bandipora, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
The area was immediately cordoned off and traffic stopped on the route, he said, adding that a bomb disposal squad was summoned.
He said the IED was later defused without causing any damage.
Had it not been defused it could have caused much damage as the route remained busy throughout the day, he added.
Border Security Force (BSF) nabbed 13 Myanmar nationals, including four women and five children, from the Border out Post (BoP) Paharpur in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district last evening.
BSF spokesperson at Jammu told UNI, jawans of the 58 BSF battalion saw a group of Myanmar nationals heading towards the International Border to cross over to the other side from Paharpur Post in Hiranagar sector. They were apprehended and handed over to Rajbough police for interrogation.
