IED defused in north Kashmir, tragedy averted
Srinagar, Feb 19 (UNI) Troops today averted a major tragedy, when they defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in north Kashmir.
A Defence Ministry spokesman said troops of 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), during a routine check, noticed a powerful IED planted under a culvert at Bandipora, about 55 km from here, in the north Kashmir's Baramulla district, to target security personnel.
The area was immediately cordoned off and traffic stopped on the route, he said, adding a bomb disposal squad was summoned and the explosive was later defused.
The damage could have been heavy as the route where the explosive was planted remains busy throughout the day, he added.
