Haryana to purchase 3900 MW of power: Hooda

Jind, Feb 19 (UNI) Haryana Government has made agreements with the Central Power Sector Undertakings and Independent power producers to purchase 3900 MW of power so as to cope with the increasing demand for power in the State.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a Rs two crore 33 KV substation at village Manoharpur, 10 km from here, said today that a number of projects have been initiated by the State Government to generate 5000 MW of additional power within next two-and-a-half years.

He said that a 1200 MW power plant would be constructed at Hisar at a cost of about Rs 3500 crore. The work to construct this power plant has been allotted to Reliance Energy Limited. He said that 2700 MW of power generating projects would be set up at Jhajjar. Out of this 1500 MW power plant would be set jointly by the NTPC, Haryana Government and Delhi Government.

Haryana would get 750 MW of power from this project. Mr Hooda maintained that another 1200 MW power plant would be set up at Jhajjar in a private sector and 90 per cent of power would be made available to the consumers in the State.

The Chief Minister was presented with a turban and was also weighted against coins by the villagers as a mark of respect. He returned the same money to the villagers for the development of their villages.
