Attari, Feb 19 (UNI) Kashmir Singh, an assistant sub-inspector of the General Railway Police, lost his life saving the people trapped in Samjhauta Delhi-Attari link train after it caught fire following blasts near Panipat last night.

According to eye-witnesses, who arrived here on the same train, the ASI, posted on security duty in Compartment no. 11, helped save many a life, when panic struck passengers faced stampede-like situation following the blast.

A visibly upset Suhail from Lahore said that Kashmira Singh made people stand on one side, away from the fire and tried to open the locked doors which had somehow jammed.

He, however, kept trying and managed to force open the door but fell off to his death in the process, Suhail said.

Had he not controlled the crowds and opened the door, many more lives would have been lost, Suhail said.
