Mumbai, Feb 19 (UNI) State-owned Gail India has signed a pact with the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun for joint marketing of Natural Gas Liquid to Gas and Gasoline (NTGG) Technology.

The agreement was signed by Mr A K Purwaha, Director (Business Development), of GAIL and Dr M O Garg, Director IIP in the presence of Dr U D Choubey, CMD, of the Company in New Delhi.

The agreement between the Company and IIP, which is a constituent laboratory of CSIR, has formalized a joint technology ownership and will facilitate the commercialization of the technology jointly. A patent application for equal Intellectual Property Rights has already been filed in 2001 and the grant of Patent will follow soon.

This agreement follows the success of the pilot plant set up at the Company's LPG plant at Vaghodia, Gujarat, which is running at a capacity of 8000 tonnes/annum of Natural Gas Liquid (NGL).

The NTGG technology enables the conversion of Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) to Gas and Gasolene. The process converts NGL into value-added products namely LPG rich stream, Gasolene blending stock and Diesel blending stock. Further experimentation is on to modify the technology to produce LPG and Naphtha or higher amount of Aromatics as end products. Some of the reputed national and international organizations have already expressed their interests for setting up commercial plant using this technology.
