Forum to organise festival to propagate folk arts among youth

Chennai, Feb 19 (UNI) A newly launched forum 'Chennai Sangamam', formed to propagate rural folk arts among the younger generation, will organise a week-long festival here from tomorrow.

Co-ordinator of the forum, popular poet and daughter of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Mrs Kanimozhi told newsmen here today that during the festival, 400 programmes will be organised, in which 1,300 rural folk artistes will participate.

The programme will be performed in parks, beach,schools, colleges and other densly populated areas in and around the city.

She said in future, the festival would be celebrated during the Pongal festival every year.

Mr Karunanidhi will formally inaugurate the festival tomorrow.

During the press conference, a music album CD titled 'Chennai Sangamam' Anthem with lyrics by popular poet Vairamuthu and her, and tuned by popular music director Deva was also released by well-known writer Sujatha. Film director Vasanth received the first copy.
