Five killed, 13 injured in accident

Sangli, Maharashtra, Feb 19 (UNI) Five people were killed and 13 others injured, in a collision between a tractor and a track, near Bhalvani checkpost on Vita-Karad road in the district today.

Among the dead were three girls, a woman and the track driver, police said.

The passenger carrying track was on way to Vita from Kadegaon, while the sugarcane loaded tractor was proceeding towards Sonhira sugar factory, when the accident took place, police added.

Ten of the injured have been admitted at Krishna hospital, Karad, where the condition of four is stated to be serious, while three have been admitted at a government hospital in the district.

Five of the deceased have been identified as - track driver Ananda Jadhav (42), Babutai Datta Hadve (50), Varhsa Shashikant Madne (eight) and two sisters Payal Mandle (three) and Chakuli Mandle(5) all from Sangli district, Police added.
