Fire in Cadilla pharma plant in GIDC, no casualties reported

Bharuch, Feb 19 (UNI) A major fire today broke out in two plants of Cadilla Pharmaceuticals, in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate at Ankleshwar, gutting assets worth several lakhs of rupees.

There has been no loss of life in the incident, Factory Inspector T J Gamit said.

More than 20 fire tenders were pressed into service and it took over 90 minutes to bring the fire under control, he said.

The fire initially broke in the reactor of the solvent recovery plant and quickly spread to the intermediate plant due to the presence of inflammable liquid cans.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire service sources said.

The Disaster Prevention Management Committee of the GIDC has reached the spot. District SP, Bharuch S M Khatri alon gwith few officials were also present at the spot.

Unofficial estimates put the loss of equipment and assets at several lakhs of rupees.
