Carpenter from Punja among 2 killed, 16 injured in accidents

Srinagar, Feb 19 (UNI) Two persons, including a carpenter from Amritsar, were killed and 16 others were wounded in different accidents in the Kashmir valley overnight, a police spokesman said.

One Farooq Ahmed, an employee of the electricity department, fell from an electric pole at Khush Roi Kalan in south Kashmir district of Anantnag this morning, the spokesman siad. He was rushed to hospital where he died.

A carpenter identified as Raghber Singh son of Raten Singh, resident of Charwan in Amritsar in Punjab, died under suspicious circumstances after returning from Gurdwara near Sang Brigade at Uri in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, he said.

Police have initiated proceedings under section 174 CrPC and the cause of death is being ascertained.

One Feroze Ahmed Malik attempted to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Badasgam Anantnag. He was admitted to hospital.

Fifteen passengers were injured when a bus collided with another bus coming from opposite direction at Dawlatabad on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the spokesman said. The injured were admitted to different hospitals.

A motorcyclist was injured when his motorcycle met with an accident at Saka Mohalla Ashmuqam, he added.
