AP registers 6.72 per cent growth in 10th plan
Hyderabad, Feb 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh achieved a 'significant' growth rate of 6.72 per cent till 2005-06, despite initial setback with the government giving top priority to the Irrigation sector.
The socio-economic survey carried out by the State Planning Department, showed that the Irrigation sector with an outlay of Rs 10,041 crore during the year 2005-06, got more than 50 per cent of the total plan outlay of Rs 20,000 crore with an increase of 27.79 per cent over the budgeted outlay for 2005-06.
The Irrigation sector accounted for 40.57 per cent of the plan allocation of 15,651 crore during 2005-06, followed by the Energy sector with 14.01 per cent. The plan allocation was 22.36 per cent more than that of 2004-05, it said, adding that Energy sector got Irrigation and Energy sectors together accounted for 49 per cent of the plan allocation of Rs 12,790 crore during 2004-05, while Social Services sector got 27.33 per cent.
The growth recorded during the tenth plan could be termed as significant, as it was the result of revival of economic growth after initial setback, it noted adding that the absolute growth of GSDP during the first four years of the tenth plan worked to 6.01 per cent.
With an outlay of Rs 10,100 crore in 2002-03, focus was on the Infrastructure sectors like Energy, Irrigation and Transport (60.62 per cent). Social services sector got 26.45 per cent of the plan allocation of Rs 10,970 crore in 2003-04, followed by Irrigation, Energy and Transport sectors which together accounted for 53.37 per cent, it added.
