Tripura: 12-hour bandh beguns peacefully

Agartala, Feb 19: The Tripura's Congress student wing, NSUI, today begun their dawn to dusk bandh in a peaceful manner with no untoward incident so far.

A police source told UNI here that about 100 agitators have been arrested from various parts of the state for picketing, however, the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) bus services were not disrupted.

Most of the shops, business establishment and schools remained closed.

West Agartala Police Station had arranged vehicle for transportation of air passengers from and to the Airport here.

Security measures throughout the state had been tightened to foil any attempt of untoward incident as tension prevailed since Thursday evening after a pitch battle among the NSUI activists and security forces during submission of memorandum to the state chief secretary by NSUI in support of its charter of demands.

The city and other district headquarters and sub-divisional towns were brought under the cover of tight security blanket and additional police, TSR, CRPF pressed into service for maintaining a close vigil on the situation.

NSUI, had called for the bandh to protest police attrocities on the activists here and demanding the cancellation of all appointment letters distributed against huge amount and statement from the Chief Minister in this regard.
