Western Disturbances from Pak to cause snow-rains in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 18 (UNI) The Western Disturbances (WDs) approaching the Kashmir Valley from Pakistan have generated a ray of hope for rain or snowfall during the next 24 hours.
The WDs, presently active in Northern Pakistan, were fast approaching the Valley, the weather office spokesman told UNI.
He said there could be snow or rainfall at a few places in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the sky will remain cloudy in the entire Kashmir Valley during the next 24 hrs.
About the cold winds sweeping the entire Kashmir region, forcing people to wear woolens again, he said there was snowfall on upper reaches during the past 48 hrs which resulted in a drop in the temperatures.
However, the minimum temperature was still one degree above normal but the maximum at 1430 hrs was recorded at 7.6 degree Celsius, which was point 4 degree below normal at 8 degree C.
He said there was a deficit rainfall in the Kashmir Valley.
However, it will be covered during the next two months which will witness a good rainfall due to the WDs.
The authorities in the Kashmir Valley have extended the winter holiday in all the government and private schools till February 28. The schools were scheduled to re-open tomorrow.
