Sonia urges people to vote Cong for Uttarakhand development

Dehradun, Feb 18 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today urged the voters of Uttarakhand to vote the party back to power for putting the state on the fast track to development.

Just three days ahead of Assembly elections in the state, Ms Gandhi, addressing a rally at the capital city of Himalayan state, said comprehensive development has been carried out by the Congress Government and people should vote Congress back to power to ensure uninterrupted progress. She said a lot has been done for the welfare of women but much remains to be done. By renaming the state 'Uttarakhand' the Congress- led UPA Government has respected the sentiments of the people, she added.

Ms Gandhi maintained that BJP needed power for themselves not for the benefit of public. ''It has always resorted to instigate the people's sentiments and play communal card,'' she said, adding that Congress' ideology has always been to sacrifice for the country and work for people.

The Congress supremo maintained that the party has stood by its promises to repay the faith public had showed towards it. ''We had a desire to lay a firm foundation of development in the state and have been successful in doing so,'' Ms Gandhi maintained, adding that the people of the state would reap its fruits in coming future.

She disclosed that there were a few difficulties still existing for the common man and UPA government was looking into it seriously. She stated that Congress government has been able to maintain equilibrium in political, economical and social zones.

Earlier, Ms Gandhi also addressed a rally at Almora and Haldwani.
