New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) As political activities regarding Uttar Pradesh intensified today and the clamour for dismissal of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government reached a crescendo, the Samajwadi Party (SP) demanded recall of Governnor T V Rajeswar accusing him of acting as ''an agent'' of the ruling Congress at the Centre.

''We have requested for an appointment with President Kalam and would ask him to recall the Governor, as he has has been sent with a special mandate to dislodge the state government,'' SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav told reporters here.

He said the Governor's expression of fear of horse trading was just his subjective assessment on which no democratically elected government could be dissmissed, a point made very clearly in the Supreme Court ruling in the Bihar case.

The SP general secretary said it was understandable why the Congress called for the governor's report when Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav was slated to prove his majority on the floor of the House on February 26.

The urge to impose Central rule in Uttar Pradesh was also because the Congress did not want the state to participate in the coming Presidential elections, as the party has no strength in the state electoral college.

''With no state Assembly existing, the Congress would be able to balance its disadvantage in the state in the Presidential elections,'' he added.
