No-confidence motion planned against MP govt

Bhopal, Feb 18 (UNI) A no-confidence motion -- on the issues of Madhya Pradesh's ''deteriorating'' law and order situation and the communal ''frenzy'' unleashed by pro-Hindu organisations -- is to be tabled against the Bharatiya Janata Party government during the Assembly's budget session, which gets underway tomorrow.

''A spurt in naxal incidents, farmers' suicides and corruption cases will be raised. The regime has given a free hand to pro-Hindu bodies to implement a communal agenda,'' Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi, a Congress tribal leader, told reporters here today while making a reference to recent communal incidents at Ujjain, Jabalpur, Indore, Bioara and other places besides the busting of a naxal weapons factory here.

Accusing the government of turning Nelson's eye on the peasants' constantly declining situation courtesy natural calamities, Ms Devi said that the opposition would press for declaration of the support price for sugarcane, initiation of relief work in drought-hit areas, laying of roads under the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme and sorting out ryots' power problems.

''The regime will be placed in the dock over issues such as Indore's pension scam, the Dental and Medical Admission Test case, Simhastha Mela scam, corruption in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, selling off textbooks as junk, violation of standards for recognition of nursing colleges and the non-appointment of commissioners under the Right to Information Act,'' she added.

Alleging that the government was indulging in propaganda vis-a-vis investment for industry, the Congress leader added that farmers' land was being usurped in the name of laying an auto-testing track at Pithampur near Indore.

''Government property was sold at throwaway prices,'' Ms Devi said.
