Mayanand Mishra gets Prabodh Sahitya Samman
New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) Noted literateur Prof Mayanand Mishra was today conferred the Prabodh Sahitya Samman for his lifetime contribution to the Maithili language and literature.
The Prabodh Sahitya Samman, which is the highest literary award in Maithili, carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a memento.
Eminent Hindi scholar and critic Namvar Singh presented the award to Mr Mishra at a function held here today. Noted linguist Director of the Central Institute of Indian Languages Udaya Narayan Singh presided over the function.
The samman was instituted in 2004 to commemorate the contribution of the Late Prabodh Narayan Singh of the Calcutta University to the struggle for the recognition of the language in the Indian Constitution. The award is aimed at encouraging talented writers from Mithila to pen their creative output in Maithili.
Prof Mishra had previously won the Sahitya Akademi award in 1988 for his novel 'Mantraputra.' He is the frontranking author of Maithili prose who placed Maithili literature on a higher plane.
