"Law University to function from next academic year": Prakash

Hubli, Feb 18 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash said today that the new Law University in the State would be start functioning from next academic year and the land required for the same has been identified at Rayapur in between twin city of Hubli and Dharwad.

Talking to newsmen here, he said Prof J S Patil of Gulbarga University who was appointed as Special Officer to establish Law University has already submitted a report to the government.

Mr Prakash clarified that the land identified for the Law University was totally separate from the 53 acres of land earmarked for IT Park in the twin city. For the time being PWD Inspection Bunglow would be converted into the temporary office of the Law University, he added.

On drought situation, Mr Prakash said that 128 taluks in the State have been affected by the drought and the government has released Rs 100 Crore per taluk for taking up necessary steps to provide drinking water and employment generation.

On the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal's final verdict a final decesion would be taken at the all party meeting in which legal experts and irrigation experts present their opnion, Mr Prakash said in reply to a question.

To another question, Mr Prakash said construction works for Circuit benches of High Court at Gulbarga and Dharwad were in full swing and might take another year for completion. Meanwhile, efforts were being made to commence functioning of the benches in the existing buildings. But, a final decision to this effect had to be taken by the Chief Jujstice, he added.
