Srinagar, Feb 18 (UNI) Union Minister for Water Resources Saif-ud-Din Soz has said improved relations between India and Pakistan would open up new vistas for trade and economic activity in the sub continent.

Besides, he said, it will also strengthen people to people contact.

Addressing a public meeting at Tujarsherif Sopore, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir yesterday, he said that opening of new routes between the two countries particularly in Jammu and Kashmir would boost the fruit industry besides generating employment for a big chunk of unemployed youth.

He said the state suffered a severe setback during militancy adding that the situation was now fast improving.

He called upon the people to extend their cooperation to the government in restoration of complete peace and normalcy which would lead the state to a new era of prosperity, progress and development.

Prof Soz said the central government was very liberal in funding the state for improving road connectivity, health, education, agriculture, horticulture, drinking water and power sectors which was imperative for speedy development.

He said under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Programme, massive development programme was in progress in Jammu and Kashmir which would change the overall profile of the state.

Later, the Union Minister laid the foundation of Budshah Pond at Tujarsherif estimated to cost Rs 1.60 crore.

On completion, the pond will provide irrigation facility to 5000 kanals of land in 5 villages of the area.
