Bangalore, Feb 18 (UNI) The State owned Defence major Bharat Dynamics limited will this summer start user trials on a series of high altitude missiles of short range capability of upto three km developed indigenously for the Indian Army.

The development of these class of missiles, currently not available anywhere in the world, would enable the Indian Army tackle effectively combats in hostile terrains in high altitude where movement of heavy armoury is next to impossible.

The Defences Missles major located in Hyderabad had already conducted two rounds of tests with four missiles each. While the first series of tests failed, it had succeeded in the second set of four missiles, Mag Gen (retd) Raajnish Gossain, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) told UNI.

These missiles could destabilise rival bunkers in high altitudes which are physically unapproachable by soldiers.

Requirement of such missiles was felt after the Kargil operations and BDL which had been heitherto manufacturing products out of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) units decided to take up the initaitive upon itself to improve its capability, Maj Gen Gossain said adding that the user trials with Army for such missiles would take place this summer.
